Golf in between the borders...    GOLF DU RHIN CHALAMPE (FRA)

Embedded on a half-island in the rhyn between France and Germany some bunkers (of concrete) reminds the battle-history of spot during several wars.
Nowadays the landscape of Du Rhyn reminds more of the 'Auenland' from Frodo Beutlin of 'Lord of the rings' - a calm and dreamy nature reserve with willow trees and ponds... Ideal terrain for Donald Harradine to design 1969 a nice Golf course.

20210514_130913.jpg
Loch 14, Par 4, mit beherztem Drive den Pond überspielen und sich vom Wasser nicht beindrucken lassen...

AMAZE!

You can relax and enjoy this fascinating Auenlandschaft and play a easy golf rounde - the fairways are well maintained and the greens in good shape. Typicially Harradine some hidden challanges awaits you: Bunker by doglegs to avoid or narrow fairways with a lot of willow trees and bushes asides.
On each teebox you can listen to the birds.

The second nine are more divers and are sunnier and some more ponds and bunkers wait to catch your balls.

FUN Factor
Relax, and avoid the ducks crossing the fairways in search for food...
Don't let you distract - and try to get an even better score!

HOW to PLAY

Typically Harradine course with long, but narrow holes and a lot of trees aside: it's important the play accurate. With a nice straigt drive your are perfect in play. ????????

SIGNATURE Hole

Hole 18 is Leanders favourite, a  Par 4 with 366 meters from the yellow tee. And water comes into play with a pond sourounding the green.

London Golf Club: Very classy, near Brands Hatch the Formula One racing circuit, 30‘ by train from London

In the eighties the Japanese businessman Masao Nagahara was missing a Championship course near London. So he led built one designed by a Champion, Jack Niklaus. Southeast from London, at Brandshatch close to the Formula 1 Racing ground they found a hilly landscape - a gem for two challenging courses:  The Heritage course is built by Jack Niklaus himself, and he inaugurated it playing with Steve Ballesteros the opening tornament. But Heritage is exclusive, for members only. Don't blame, the second, 'International Course', also a Niklaus Golden Bear Design is also very challenging and fun to play with strategic bunkers in the wavey fairways, ponds and tricky greens  - all beautifully integrated into the typical english landscape.
Exclusive also is the Club house and restaurant, Enjoy.

AMAZE!

Challenging course, excellent to play even with wind.
Charming Clubhouse with nice restaurant and Pro-Shop with excellent staff (worked in Switzerland).

HIGH LIGHTS

The course challenges your golfing abilities with exciting and rewarding shots over water that really get the heart pumping: Challenge starts with Hole 1, Par 5: After a precise tee-shot to reach higher ground, take some risk to get to the green protected by a big, deep pond and a nasty bunker. I'm glad to play with Paul Stuart, Head-PR to guide me.
Cheer up at the tee of  hole no 8, Par 3 and forget the water around the narrow green.

FUN Factor

Play it with Paul Stuart, Head-Pro, you get Champions-advice, improvement of your play and instant success on the course.

HOW to PLAY

As playing a Jack Niklaus Design beware of hazards in play, deep ponds and bunkers are waiting everywere...

Yardage is rather demanding  with four long par 5 s - great pleasure count  nearly five hours to play the course and with the wind that blows often over the meadows.

Not enough green? Lovers of garden culture are rewarded at the Lullingstone Castle & The World Garden

Lullingstone Castle is one of England’s oldest family estates since the 15th Century. The World Garden combines plant heritage with cutting-edge horticulture. The heir of the estate, Tom Hart Dyke, beeing kidnapped in South America decided that the best course of action would be to spend his final day on Earth designing his dream garden in his diary – containing the plants he’d collected from across the globe.
Luckly he survived and realised The World Garden at his estate.

A true gem, and a biest: the course offers the toughest resitistance to every shot - still giving the player the opportunity to shine...  Even champions at the regular revenue of the British Open suffer about the hazards often dearly visible, next time 2021.
Very traditional, exclusive Club house, the restaurant for members only, but the bar is also offering very decent meals...

Himalaya or coffin - the deepest bunker in GB they say... 12m to master.

AMAZE!

very challenging Links course with 'Himalya', the deepest bunker I have ever seen: 12 meter high.
Sean, the caddie, calls the bunker coffin...

 HOW to PLAY

As a Links Course by the sea your golfing abilities are challenged with long blind shots against the wind, luring bunkers, as deep as hell... Fairways are wide but hide some hazards and bunkers. Even if you have seen the course on TV, on the course hidden hazards are waiting every were. We advice you to play it with a member or a caddy to savour to the full what it has to offer...
As playing it in July 2017 it was rather cold and windy -  Finishing the course brush the sand out of your hair, cloths, and clean your hair...... also because some bunkers triggerd my play.

FUN Factor

Play it at the weekend with a member, who is allowed to take the dog with, the dog could help you to find the ball in the marshland...

Arzaga, Gary Player, Garda, I

Italian landscape meets Gary Players Design at  Arzaga Golf Course near Lake Garda:

The nine hole course finished in 2006 is rather a challenge: greens are often protected by crater-deep bunkers -  nearly as steep as in Royal St. George.
Designed in the natural beauty of the landscape, this course will fascinate the most experienced golfers and entertain also newcomer.
Play it in spring when flowers and butterflies charm your eyes. Yardage to walk is rather demanding, so when you play during summer take a buggy there are not a lot of trees around to play PAR 36, and walk ca. 3500m.
Situated near the Lake Garda you have fantastic facilities and hotels around - as ..

Signature Hole on the narrow peninsula No 6,  163 m to play for men (yellow)

AMAZE!

You find an open parkland course with 'Links land' is  an undulating surface inmids Italian Landscape.
Very comprehensive Marshall and staff: the fixed immedateatly our ball catcher, essentiel for bucca 6...

HIGH LIGHTS

Hole Bucca 3: Steep Bunkers

Deep bunkers on both sides of the fairway are waiting to catch your ball. Your approach shot has to be the right length, as the green is guarded by another high-lipped bunker.

Hole 6: Peninsula Playground

A small green is waiting on the peninsula protected by water and bunkers. So precise play is needed.

FUN Factor Enjoy a cold drink and have supper under olive trees after the challenging course in the heat...
HOW to PLAY

After hilly No 1, British golfer will feel like home playing a Links course - but in Italian summer - with rather hard soil balls are running on the fairways. But beware of the bunkers: f.e. on the long hole 4th, a 557m long par 5  with bunkers in the landing area of the drive. Another bunker near the green is guarding the left side, while a pond is catching every ball on the right side.

I Roveri by Robert Trent Jones, Torino, Italy

The first Robert Trent Jones Design in Europe offers a great Golf experience

The owners of Fiat, the Agnelli family, invited Robert Trent Jones sen. to create one of his first masterpieces in Europe (Sotogrande was the first in 1964). Where the king of Piedemonte used to hunt, nowadays Golf afficionades search their balls under mature oak trees - I Roveri - with the best view to Mont Blanc und the snowcovered Alps. On the 1971 inaugurated course you will notice the very strategic deployment of water and the very sophisticated plotted position and design of bunkers, and the ondulated greens. Enjoy!

Roveri Trent Jones bucca 6 www 20201003 154530 (Foto: Luzia Kopp)

Bucca 6 - Par 3, typisch Trent Jones:  Green schön protected mit Bunkern, taktisch schmaler Einlass zum manicürten Green...

AMAZE!

There are a lot rabbits and even a wild boar have we seen on the King's huntingground... but also a lot of interesting holes the Trent Jones course offers to play in this Nature Reserve. Espacially in harvest when the oaktrees are colourful it's a pleasure to play.

FUN Factor

Challenge your Flight companions with a Matchplay, to find out, who can read the Trent Jones holes better... My son Leander is a little bit disappointed, as I succed to win with 3 Pars the on the Par 3 holes, thanks for reading the hole tacitally and fix the ball with the first stroke on the green, like on Bucca 6....

HOW to PLAY

It's important to study the design carefully before playiing. So look twice and imagine where the ball might land and moves. And you have to know where to play espacially approaching the green: you often don't get the chance to roll the ball onto very well defended greens...

SIGNATURE Hole

Signature Hole 17, HCP 1,  a long Par 4 with 417m to the flag. Water comes in to play with a pond to overplay and the green is a dogleg to the right where a bunker tries to catch your ball...
In the afternoon some local players take the short cut from hole 2 to play hole 17 twice...

Alcanada, Majorca, E

Hans-Peter Porsche's, grandson of legendary car pionier Ferdinand Porsche, realised his golf dream with the Alcanada Golf Course - designed by Robert Trent Jones  Jr.  - situated in the bay of Alcúdia, north east on the island of Majorca. The scenic view would be nothing without the lighthouse on Alacanada Island...

Alcanada is rated as one of the favourite golf courses in Spain - because of the layout and the view - nearly from every hole you can enjoy sea view: good to relax, because several holes are very challenging: first of all no 1, a dogleg to the right, where a canyon has to be overplayed to reach the green.

If you are lucky you get an original Porsche buggy to play your round. Buggy is recommended because the course is hilly and you profit from the newest GPS-technology.

Signature Hole No 7, 523 m to playSignature Hole No 7, 523 m to play

AMAZE!

Scenic, the only course with great seaview on Majorca on nearly every hole. Enjoy the challenging hilly course with pine trees embedded in the natural landscape of the Alcudia bay - a role model of the mediterranean. Every hole is different and you can look forward to an exciting round of golf.

HIGH LIGHTS

Signature Hole No 7, overlooking dream landscape and the Alcanda lighthouse, with PAR 5 the longest hole: over 500m to play for all players

FUN Factor

Porsche buggy to play your round

HOW to PLAY Wide fairways invite longdrivers to hit, but be aware of streams and bushes, whitch flank the playground. The terrain is hilly and canyons are waiting to catch your ball as on hole 1. Steep slopes challenge your creative flair to escape hazards and reach the green.
Beware: the greens often not only fail to hold your ball, they are also hard to read... Enjoy!

Tazegzout - new Challange with best view to the Atlantic Ocean, waste areas and Argan tress

You have to unpack your golfing gifts: the very modern course architecture -designed von Kyle Phillips, 2015, needs your skills. The first nine mostly parallel up and down hill are to practice for the second: Back nine are the real challange hilly, with waves and doglegs - and all with the best view to the Altantic ocean and to the construction works around... And you reach the climax with the hole 17 and 18: Scenic view and a challange to play...
In the morning with fog and dizzy weather Tazegzout you feel like on a Links Course in Scottland  - but with comfy 28 C. During summer time temperatur rises to over 33 C but often there is a cooling breeze from the Atlantic Ozean.

Hole 17 as the utmost challenge:  Par 3, from Red 120m to play over the canyon and waste area. Leander reaches the green by the first shoot...  (Fotos: Leander Kopp/ Luzia )

AMAZE!

Fantastic View over the bay and Atlantic Ocean nearly from every hole.
Reminds me to a Links-Course in Scottland - with fog an clouds in the morning...

HIGH LIGHTS

Tagazout is like beauty and a beest: Nice views but nothing to relax: f.e.  Par 5 with over 550m to play or a lot of Doglegs with huge fairwys but also stony Waste Areas or Argan-bushes and -trees aside.
The goats are nice but cant help finding balls or to play from there...

HOW TO PLAY

Fairways are fair but the soil hard, with short grass: accurate play is a must, else your balls will split away - to the Waste Area (often unplayable...)

Strategic bunkers and heavily undulating greens force a tactic approach and putting.

FUN Factor Relaxing with a cool drink at the Lounge Bar with the best view to Hole 18 and the sea.

Marktgräflerland, South Germany D

Nice to play sustainable golf inbetween blossoms and cows

Since the beginning 1995 Golf Marktgräflerland aims to offer Golf on a very high level and to support a sustainble development of the course by respecting natural surroundings and to provide natural habitats and ecosystems for birds and other animals. Encounters with animals on the course are proving that the enviromental commitment works - we are looking forward to golf and animal challenges on the course.

In the midst of flowering meadows and orchards we encounter a well maintained, rather short but hilly course:  5931 m (white ),  5256 Metern (blue) Par 72  - with undulated fairways, challenging doglegs, big bunkers and ponds in play. The hilly Markgräfer landscape takes its toll with elevated unapologetic greens, straight downhill shuts and demands walking some differences in altitude... - carts are avaible if needed.

AMAZE!

The start is typically for the course: Loch 1, Par 4 with around 400 meter to play and an elevated, partially hidden Green with several bunkers around. Play straigt to avoid Out on the right, and on the left with some bushes and big trees covering the sight to the green. On the left a little brook catches the ball, but the alarmed wagtails Bächlein help to find the ball...

Loch 4, Par 5,
In the midst of the hilly flowering meadows a Dogleg to the left demands tactical play: a clever placed Drive rolls100m downhill...
Avoid the the big power pole in the middle  of the fairway, it blocks a direct shot on the hidden Green. By chance you reach on the right the well manicured big bunkers or worse the water in the pond.

FUN Factor On each hole animal encounters are welcome: Just at the Teebox No 4 nice beef awaits us: looks like 'scottish'...
Or we hear a woodpecker knocking vididly.

HOW to PLAY

The well maintained course demands straight shots and solid tactical play forced by inclinations, the doglegs, hidden approaches and quick and ondulated greens.

SIGNATURE Hole

6, Par 5,  the most challening and scenic hole: water, trees and sand awaits you. Long but accurate shots are needed downhill to avoid the obstacles- the trees on the right in the little brook on the left of the dogleg. Finally you have to get to the narrow green near the pond, protected by water and big Bunker.
